This is the beginning of my journey to understand the secrets to mastering life.
For the last several years, I have been doing a lot of soul searching. I’ve worked really hard on myself, and I’ve come a long way from where I used to be. I know I have so much more to learn, I believe it’s a life long process.
As a person, I’ve grown in so many ways, my life has changed for the better, and I have learned much healthier and more productive ways to handle things that come my way. My sense of self and my perspective of life is incredibly changed, in a very positive way.
I’ve always felt deep down that there were these tiny pieces I was missing, although I’ve never been sure of exactly what these were. Much less what to do to figure out how to even find these missing pieces of this puzzle of life.
How do you even go about searching for something when you don’t even know exactly what it is you’re supposed to be looking for?
My brain was on the verge of exploding trying to figure this out. And then out of the blue, I had an epiphany. It hit me just the other day, while talking about my grandma. I realized something about her that I’d never really noticed before. Suddenly it was standing out like a neon sign on a dark night.
Somewhere along the course of her 89 years on this Earth, my grandma had learned the secrets to mastering life. Somehow, she had figured it out!
Once this realization smacked me upside the head, a million questions started running through my mind. I knew I was going to have to find out what she knew that I didn’t. What were her secrets, and how exactly did she manage to figure it out?
This epiphany is what motivated my search for the secrets to mastering life.
Honestly, I was really overwhelmed by this sudden realization, and at first, my mind was all over the place. I had to figure out what I was going to do with this information, and how to go about getting the answers to all of my questions from my grandma. I didn’t want to overwhelm her either.
What I needed was a plan.
My excitement made it hard to remember to practice patience, as all good things take time. I was ready to know all the things right now. At the same time, I knew this wasn’t something that could be rushed, and I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss a thing.
This is when I got the idea to take the search for the secrets to mastering life and turn it into a multi-part series. Something this big, this life changing, couldn’t all be done in a day. It needed to be planned, well thought out, and well documented.
The first step was going to be giving my grandma a call, and explaining all of this to her. (Hey Mimi, I need all your life secrets, stat. Hahaha.) Then I needed to make sure she would be down with all of it. I was a little nervous, because I wasn’t quite sure what her reaction to all of this would be.
So, I picked up the phone and gave her a call. And of course she wanted to help! I think she’s feeling pretty special too, which makes me feel pretty good.
A little backstory before I continue
Before I go into my plan of action, I think it’s important to give you a little insight into my grandma’s life first. She wasn’t born with the secrets to mastering life, she had to live a little first.
My grandma’s name is Mary, she was born in January of 1930 in Richmond, VA. She was one of 8 siblings, she had 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Mary grew up during The Great Depression, which was a very hard time for families economically. Her mother even took in foster babies as well as boarders for extra money.
One thing that remained a constant in her life was church. Her family attended regularly, and even at home, God and faith were regular topics. Mary also did what most kids do, she once snuck away to the movies to watch Shirley Temple.
It wasn’t until she was in her 20’s and started having children that she realized she had some things to learn about life. Learning patience and how to deal with things better were just a few skills she needed to work on.
She discovered something that worked in getting her through the challenges of life. Of course, even with this discovery, she had to put in some work as well. She had a moment of self-realization, and used this to her advantage.
After my full interview, I’m going to reveal exactly what she did that changed her life and the way she handled it. You’re not going to want to miss this, so make sure you’ve subscribed so you can follow along!!
