Own your shit, change your life
Stop being afraid to own your shit. Stop making excuses for your choices, actions and behaviors. Do you want your life to change? Do you want to be able to move forward, and find contentment? If your answer is yes, then the very first step is to own your shit.
Owning your shit means being honest with yourself. It means no more making excuses for yourself, no pity parties, only truth and honesty. Own your choices, your behaviors, your actions. Own your feelings too. The best way to do this is by practicing self awareness and mindful thinking.
When you start learning how to pay attention to your thoughts, and really think about them, you’ll start to learn more about yourself. In doing this, it will allow the process of self realization to start working it’s magic. The process itself is actually pretty damn cool. When you become aware of your thoughts, and start realizing you can control them, it’s an amazing feeling.
Once you reach the point where you begin to combine all of these things together, you will better understand yourself. You will get to know yourself on a powerfully deep level. I would even go as far as saying this is truly a spiritual experience.
The thing is, you have to be ready to do this. You have to be ready to commit to being honest with yourself. It’s not going to just come to you, you have to practice becoming aware of your thoughts, your inner dialogue. We all possess the capability to do this. Mindful thinking is actually something we do every day. It’s just a matter of harnessing this skill, and using it to your advantage.
All of these tools are necessary in order to own your shit.
Pay attention to your words, they matter
Hell yeah, your words matter! Most of you are probably familiar with the whole, “actions speak louder than words” quote. I’m not saying this is wrong or untrue. What I am saying is, words can speak just as loudly! The words others speak to you, and most importantly, the words you speak to yourself. They have such a huge impact on the way you feel about yourself.
Think about it. If you are constantly spewing negative shit, guess what? You’re throwing that negativity out into the universe. What you put out, is what you get back. Does that make sense?
So guess what happens when you stop spewing all that negative stuff out there, and instead focus on only positive things? The same thing – if you put positive thoughts and words into the universe, you attract positive energy! I hope you’re still following me here.
Let me break it down a little more. It’s insanely simple. Negative attracts negative, and positive attracts positive. Once you understand this, the only decision to make is, what do you want to attract? Honestly, I don’t know why anyone would choose to purposefully attract negativity. It’s just no good, and it helps nothing and nobody.
This is known as the Law of Attraction.
In saying that, most of us don’t even realize we’re putting all this negativity out there. Unfortunately, it’s easier to focus on the negative, which in turn makes it easier to become a habit. The good news is, habits can be broken, and new habits can be learned as well.
How do you create these new habits, as well as get rid of the old? It begins with being ready and willing to own your shit. And owning your shit means no more making or accepting excuses from yourself, being honest with yourself, and realizing and understanding you have more power than you think.
Own your shit and change your life by using these practices:
- Be honest with yourself, and with others
- Learn the art of self awareness
- Practice mindfulness and mindful thinking
- Meditating helps with all of these
- Stop making excuses
- Stop negative talk and self talk
- Practice positive thinking
- Remember that what you put out into the universe, is what will come back to you
- Think about your goals, write them down, and make a plan for achieving those goals
- It’s ok to fall, just don’t stay there. Get back up and keep moving forward
If you want to change your life, you can do it. It is possible to reach your goals and get to where you want to be. You just have to want it, and be willing to put in the work and the effort it takes to get there. Don’t be afraid of failing, it’s impossible to fail as long as you’re doing your best.
We all have bad days, that’s just a part of life. But it doesn’t have to be a bad life just because of a bad day. The bad day will pass, that bad moment in time will not last forever. We’re all only human, we’re imperfect, flawed. And that’s ok too. That doesn’t mean we can’t achieve contentedness. It doesn’t mean we can’t achieve inner peace.
Each and every one of us has the opportunity to choose our own path. As we grow and learn, we’re also able to adjust our paths. You have the ability to do so much more than you realize, you just have to reach deep down inside yourself and find your strength. Once you find that, you will have the capability to do anything you want.

Bullet Journals are a must have for using journal prompts for writing, keeping track of your day, as well as your feelings and moods. There are tons to choose from, this is just an example.
This is the perfect journal to use for learning mindfulness, which of course you need to help you with owning your shit. I like this one specifically because it also includes writing prompts, which are great in beginning the writing process of keeping a journal.
